I’ve noticed I’m working with a lot more women who want to move out of “work work work” mode and transition into leadership, mentoring, coaching, speaker and workshop hosting roles. Like me, most of my clients have been in business for over 10 years. And it’s around this time when you need to start looking at what your next phase of business is. Let’s face it, you can’t keep working like you have been forever (why would you want to?). You’ve done your time, you’ve been around the block you know your stuff.
It works both ways.
Have any of these scenarios happened to you? Colleagues calling you for coffee catchup’s to discuss their business? People PM’ing you on Facebook to pick your brain? Or acquaintances emailing you for advice? If you have, don’t get annoyed. It’s the natural progression of business and it’s what happens when the next generation is coming up and looking for guidance and mentors to look up to. And I’m here to share next phase business coaching for industry experts.
Don’t work for peanuts.
Here’s a two-step process that will start to uncover what your next phase of business looks like.
One – By putting up your price you’re elevating yourself to a higher end. This is backed up by your years of experience. You’ve been in business for a long time. You’ve got your clients, you’ve made your name but now you need to take yourself to the next level. This is achieved by letting go of clients on lower packages, which will allow you to free up more time and outsource where needs be.
Two – Figure out what you want to teach and if you want to mentor or coach? Then, look at your packages and let go of anything that you cringe at (you’ll need to be honest and ferocious when doing this). My friend Jenna always reminds me that, “A change is as good as a holiday”. So be brave and allow yourself to freshen things up. Work with people in a new way; either one-on-one or move to online (this is my favourite because it’s so laser focused in a 45 to 60-minute container of time).
The more access people have to you, the higher your price point needs to be. Be aware of this important point – charge your worth and for all your years of experience (remember back in the day when you soldiered through 12 hours time and time again). I help my clients to look at their packages and work out what needs to be moved up a level. This includes pricing advice and packaging in terms of becoming a mentor and stepping into or creating a personal brand around the expert that you already are.
Get out your journal. Take a moment to sit, be still and relax. Close your eyes and breath. When you’re feeling calm and centred work through these questions and write down your answers.
Where do you want to be a year from now?
What does your ideal day look like?
What time do you wake up what do you wear?
Who’s next to you?
What are you going do that day?
How are you going make your money?
Are you offering a ‘done for you’ services or have you moved away from that?
Are you teaching?
Are you coaching?
Are you hosting a VIP day with a one-on-one client?
Are you mentoring?
Are you hosting a workshop?
What makes you happy?
How do you want to serve people?
Who’s supporting you? (Have you started to outsource things?).
How are you getting support in your business?
If you’re planning a holiday; where are you going and how are you travelling / where are you staying?
Let your answers and feelings flow into your journal and go deep into a forward visioning process. Create a vision board about where you want to be this time next year and ask yourself what you’re going do to get yourself closer to your vision. How are you going to show the world that you’re the expert that you are?
It works for me and it’ll work for you.
Always think about your WHY. Why are you doing what you do? Are you supporting your family or your lifestyle? Are you helping family members? Where do you want to send your kids to school? Is there a charity you’ve always wanted to contribute towards? Let yourself dream a little bit about the use of the money. What’s the purpose for the money that you want to create? The answer to that will help you to anchor into your WHY and that’s what you focus on no matter what.
